Horizontal Screw Press

The disposal of swarf from grinding is difficult and expensive. Prab now offers a method to allow swarf or filter cake material that is 40-50% wet from coolant and cutting oils to be "dewattered" up to 80%. This fluid extracting screw press can process 500+ pounds per hour. Swarf is fed into an opening on top of the machine and passes through a variable pitched auger screw. Compressed against the end plate (held in position by an air cylinder), the material is squeezed and the fluid is extracted through a wedge wire screen. When a pre-determined pressure is met, the cylinder opens the end plate, permitting the dewatered material to exit the machine. Resistance can be adjusted as required. To be effective, each application must be looked at individually as there are limits to the media type as well as its percentage to metal. As a rule, the media should be no more than 25% of the mix. Contact your local Prab representative for more information and help in determining if this process is a fit for your operation.
Briquetting Swarf

Swarf may be briquetted in the Prab PaceSetter II briquetter after preprocessing in the SP-6 Swarf Screw Press to obtain up to a 95% fluid recovery. A Prab engineered system allows the swarf to first be passed through the SP-6 which extracts initial fluids, leaving 10-20% wet material. It is then passed through a modified PaceSetter II Briquetter to finish the process. |
